ALLANTOIN
Is the active ingredient in comfrey. This is a non-toxic crystal which can help wounds and sores by stimulating the growth of healthy tissue. It is a skin softener and an anti-irritant, which inhibits allergic type responses. ALOE VERA GEL (organic) Aloe improves hydration and is soothing and healing to all skin types. True aloe vera is watery and thin. Most aloe vera "gels" on the market have been chemically thickened, coloured and preserved. The highest quality aloe vera juice is harvested from the inner heart of the stalks, as the outer skin of the plant can contain an alkaloid that is irritating to some people. ASCORBIC ACID (Vitamin C) Scientific data have shown that Vitamin C can help increase the amount of collagen production in the skin. It is also a natural anti-inflammatory that helps in reversing some of the effects of sun damage to the skin. By increasing the amount of collagen in the skin, the fine lines can be reduced. Vitamin C is a highly popular anti-oxidant and is a required component in the production of collagen, the tissue responsible for skin suppleness. Vitamin C has also been shown to help slow the production of age spots while providing some UV protection. BEESWAX (organic) A natural emulsifier and texturizer used in lotions, lip balms, lip sticks, salves, and deodorants. BLACK WILLOWBARK EXTRACT (organic) shows potent anti-microbial properties, making it valuable not only in a preservative, but as a safe way to get the benefits of a B-hydroxy acid (used to treat acne) without the irritation. BLUE-GREEN ALGAE TINCTURE (organic) is a wild-harvested organic certified single celled organism from Oregon. It contains a full spectrum of minerals, chlorophyll, B Vitamins, Beta-Carotene, Pro Vitamin A, Lipids, enzymes, essential amino acids, nucleic acids, DHA and EPA fatty acids. BORAGE SEED OIL (organic) has an extremely high gamma linolenic acid (GLA) content, which is vital for the synthesis of prostaglandin, very important for skin cell function. It has the highest known content of essential unsaturated fatty acids, which are great skin conditioners, regulating the hydration of the skin. CALENDULA EXTRACT Regenerative and anti-inflammatory, Calendula oil is known as an effective treatment for burnt, irritated and inflamed skin. Helps to soften and soothe dry, chapped skin. Very effective on ageing skin or those that suffer from dry skin conditions. CARBOMER A term used for a series of polymers primarily made from acrylic acid and frequently used as gels in cosmetics. CARROT OIL is rich in beta carotene, vitamins A, E and pro-vitamin A which help repair dry, chapped skin. Carrot Tissue Oil is a popular specialty oil as it is rich in beta carotene, vitamins B, C, D, E and essential fatty acids. Helps to soften and soothe dry, chapped skin and is very effective on ageing skin. CASTOR OIL (organic) is extracted from the seeds of the castor plant. Castor oil is part alcohol and part oil. It is mainly composed of ricinoleic acid (87%), a fatty acid with an unusual molecular structure. It creates a very soothing and protective barrier on the skin, and is commonly used in lip care and hair products. CITRIC ACID is derived from non-GMO corn and is commonly used as a preservative and to adjust the pH in personal care products. COCOA BUTTER (organic) is the rich, solid fat extracted from cocoa beans, hence the delicious scent in the undeodorized version. Highly protective and water repelling, reducing skin dryness and improving skin flexibility. COCOMIDOPROPYL BETAINE is a mild surfactant (cleanser), thickener and foam booster made by combining coconut oil fatty acids, alcohol and betaine (beet sugar) or another form of plant sugar. Often used to boost foam in non-sulphate shampoos and cleansers. COCONUT OIL (organic) this highly saturated fat is wonderfully emollient and has cooling properties, as well as promoting a high degree of lather in soaps and shower gels. Considered one of the safest, most effective moisturizers available, as well as being naturally anti-microbial and anti-fungal. CRANBERRY EXTRACT (organic) Cranberries are considered a “superfruit” because of their nutrient content and antioxidant properties. Cranberries are a source of polyphenol antioxidants, which is a type of antioxidant containing a polyphenolic substructure. CRANBERRY SEED OIL contains high concentrations of vitamins, phytosterols and phospholipids and 70 essential fatty acids, with a very high level of Omega 3, making it a superb emollient, lubricant and conditioner for the skin, lips, and hair. DIMETHCONE is derived from silica and commonly used in haircare for its detangling and softening properties and to add shine to the hair. Also used in creams and lotions to help add a protective layer onto the skin, protecting from moisture loss. DISODIUM LAURETH SULFOSUCCINATE Is a surfactant. The molecules are larger and cannot penetrate the skin in the way other surfactants do. It’s considered very gentle on the skin, and is even suitable for more sensitive skin types. Since it’s not sulfated in production, it will be free of sulfates (the salt of sulfuric acid which is potentially harmful to the skin). It’s often incorrectly compared to Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) as they’re both used in cosmetic products as a foaming agent and emulsifier. DMAE (dimethylaminoethanol) is a naturally occurring substance that extends the life of cells, inhibiting the cross linking of proteins, giving the skin a toned and firm appearance. It has become popular due to the dermatologist, Dr. Perricone’s book, The Wrinkle Cure. When applied to the face, DMAE stimulates acetylcholine which triggers a response in the muscles of the face. This creates a firmer facial tone and less sagging. EMULSIFYING WAX A vegetable derived emulsifying wax, which produces very stable emulsions in creams and lotions. It enables oils and butters to be easily emulsified with water to create a wide variety of personal care products. EVENING PRIMROSE OIL (organic) like borage oil, this oil is extremely high in GLA, especially vital for the skin, as well as vitamins, minerals and other fatty acids that help repair damaged and mature skin. HEMP SEED OIL (organic) Fully legal, this oil contains none of the THC found in marijuana. It has a remarkable fatty acid profile, which is said to stimulate cell growth. With very emollient properties, it is especially suitable for dry or mature skin. HYALURONIC ACID is one of the most exciting ingredients on the market today. Applied topically, hyaluronic acid forms an air permeable layer and penetrates into the dermis, boosting the elasticity and hydration of the skin. HYDROLYZED SILK PROTEINS are amino acids created by liquefying silk. They can penetrate the skin, leaving it feeling silky smooth, due to their water binding properties. HYDROLYZED WHEAT PROTEINS Plant proteins have excellent skin and hair compatibility and deposit a protective film that is smoothing and moisturizing. |
JOJOBA OIL (organic)
is technically not an oil, but a liquid wax ester that closely resembles human sebum. It contains protein, minerals and a waxy substance that mimics collagen. It can help both dry or oily skin. If your skin has an over production of sebum jojoba oil will dissolve clogged pores and restore the skin to its natural pH balance. It doesn’t feel greasy and absorbs quickly, yet recent research has shown that it can increase skin softness by up to 37% and reduce lines and wrinkles up to 25%. It is an antioxidant and can extend the shelf life of other oils and is very good as a superfatting agent since it resists rancidity. MANGO BUTTER (organic) Mango Butter is expeller pressed from the kernels of the mango fruit. Mango is rich in unsaponifiables, making it highly emollient, while its especially high content of oleic and stearic acids make it comparable to Cocoa Butter in humectant (moisture sealing) properties. MEADOWFOAM SEED OIL re-moisturizes the skin in ways no other oil can. It adds shine and moisture to hair, and helps revitalize dry, cracked lips. NEEM SEED OIL (organic) Used widely as an anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-septic and anti-parasitic, and is even being used widely now as a natural insecticide for agricultural crops. Used in cosmetic products it helps to keep fungal and bacterial growth to a minimum, allowing for a great reduction in the use of synthetic preservatives. OLIVE OIL (organic) This highly nutritive and stable oil has superior penetrating power, is naturally anti-oxidant and is high in unsaponifiables, with plant sterolins which are known to soften skin and reduce scars. PHENOXYETHANOL is a synthetic preservative that is highly protective against dangerous bacteria and fungi that can contaminate skincare products. Some companies (trying to appear completely natural ) claim that it is derived from rose oil, sage oil, minerals, plant derivatives and even coconut. Phenoxyethanol is not even remotely related to these ingredients, and is synthesized in a lab. It is, however, very safe, and non-irritating and non-sensitizing when used as suggested, which is at 2.2%% or lower. It does not contain any parabens, or other formaldehyde releasing agents. In our products, it is used at 1% or lower, due to the additional preservative qualities of Tetrasodium EDTA ( see below) and natural ingredients with preservative qualities (neem oil, black willowbark and rosemary oleoresin). RED RASPBERRY SEED OIL contains high concentrations of vitamins and%essential fatty acids known to be lubricating, emollient and conditioning , as well as having UV absorptive properties in all three ranges beneficial for photoprotection. ROOIBOS EXTRACT OR TEA has a unique flavonoid composition, with an extremely high concentration of anti-oxidants (50 X that of green tea) as well as anti-inflammatories, minerals and polyphenols. It calms and soothes problem skin as well as protecting against free radical damage. ROSEHIP SEED OIL (organic) is a healing oil said to regenerate the skin and counteract the effects of aging. With high concentrations of Vitamin C, Omega 3 and GLA it is often used for stretch marks, burns, scars and mature dry skin. ROSEMARY OLEORESIN EXTRACT has been used as a natural preservative for hundreds of years. It is an oil soluble anti-oxidant that prevents oils from becoming rancid. ROSEWOOD ESSENTIAL OIL is extracted from the woody matter of the Rosewood tree with the help of steam distillation. It rejuvenates the skin and keeps it looking healthy and young. This product is no longer sustainable, therefore you will notice most of our products now use a rosewood blend essential oil which is a blend of sustainable all natural essential oils to replicate the scent of rosewood. SHEA BUTTER (organic) is a solid butter from the karite tree. It is extremely therapeutic, helping cracked, aged and damaged skin. It has a high content of unsaponifiable compounds called plant sterolins which have superior softening power and help repair scars. Also, it is high in cinnamic esters, which have anti-microbial properties as well as providing some protection from the UV rays of the sun. SODIUM LACTATE is a liquid salt that is naturally derived from the natural fermentation of sugars found in corn and beets. Because Sodium Lactate is a salt, it is a natural humectant, providing moisture. SODIUM LAURYL SULFOACETATE Unlike SLS, sodium lauryl sulfoacetate is safe for most skin types, including sensitive skin. It removes oils and bacteria without irritating the skin. SUNFLOWER SEED OIL (organic) is rich in essential fatty acids and vitamins A and E, good for moisturizing, regenerating and conditioning the skin, especially mature, sensitive and dry, damaged skin. SWEET ALMOND OIL A light, nearly odourless oil, similar to baby’s sebum, it is very nourishing and easily absorbed. TETRASODIUM EDTA Although the name sounds a little scary, it is not. It is derived from sodium salts and is used as a chelating agent. Not only does it stabilize products but by binding to certain minerals, it prevent molds from growing, and can pulls heavy metals from your skin. EDTA enhances the efficacy of preservatives. TITANIUM DIOXIDE is used in creams that block the sun’s rays wherever it is applied. It is also commonly found in makeup and white soaps, though when used in the soap it is not in a strong enough concentration to provide sun protection. VITAMIN A is a well known anti-oxidant that can aid in the removal of dangerous free radicals that damage the collagen production of our skin cells. Collagen is a protein fiber that serves as a building block for skin cells, causing the middle layers of the skin to plump out and efficiently retain moisture. VITAMIN B COMPLEX is good for human tissues, both skin and hair, being absorbed quickly and providing a cumulative conditioning effect. VITAMIN C ESTER is the form of Vitamin C that is oil soluble, and more chemically stable, meaning it will remain viable for a longer period of time. It is used as a preservative and anti-oxidant to prevent rancidity. It is thought to prevent collagen breakdown and help to combat the signs of aging. As an anti-oxidant it is believed to battle the free radical assault from sun exposure, pollution and smoke. VITAMIN E acts as a free radical scavenger, hindering the oxidizing process caused by damage from smoke, pollution and UV rays from the sun. It is an emollient that can reduce roughness, cracking and irritation. WITCH HAZEL is distilled from the twigs and leaves of the Hamamelis Virginiana tree and is used for it’s excellent astringent qualities, tightening the skin and other tissues. XANTHAN GUM is a polysaccharide derived from non GMO fermented corn sweeteners, that is often used in the food and natural cosmetic industry to thicken and stabilize products. ZINC OXIDE Used medicinally as an astringent, antiseptic, anti-perspirant, and physical UV filter, providing opacification to the sun’s rays. |
